Joint committees have been designated to work on strategies for achieving each goal. We meet regularly via the Internet because of widespread locations and differing time zones.

Our Objectives

Effective corrosion control measures are implemented by governments and corporations globally.

  • To communicate how the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals can be advanced through best practice in corrosion protection
  • To enhance public awareness of the importance of corrosion control via the annual Corrosion Awareness Day (April 24) and other activities
  • To facilitate influencing of policy makers with respect to consideration of sustainable use of materials in a circular economy

Organization

About The World Corrosion Organization (WCO)

The WCO is a non-profit charitable organization based in New York and is a non-governmental organization (NGO) of the United Nations (UN).
The WCO has members from around the world and fall into two categories: General Members (national not-for-profit organizations) and Affiliate Members (governmental organizations, industrial enterprises, or other profit-oriented organizations). WCO members commit to a code of honor to secure the highest level of corrosion control and prevention in order to avoid harming humankind, ecology, and economy by the effects of corrosion.

Our Mission

To promote education and best practices in corrosion control for the socio-economic benefit of society, preservation of resources, and protection of the environment.

Organization Structure

The Board of Administrators consists of the executive officers, one member from each of the four founder organizations, and one member from each of three general members organizations selected by the General Assembly. The General Assembly has one voting member from each of the general member and founder member organizations plus one non-voting member from each affiliate member organization. Furthermore, every organization may have an alternate delegate.

Join us

WCO General Membership is open only to not-for-profit organizations that have a significant interest in corrosion control and/or corrosion research. Initial membership fee is $450.00 USD. Thereafter annual dues are $100.00 USD.

WCO Affiliate Membership is open to those organizations that have a significant interest in corrosion control and/or corrosion research but do not qualify for general membership as long as they agree with the conditions on the application. Annual dues are $500.00 USD.
